The colors that are created naturally together fascinate me. For example, the browns and taupes in a waning sunset may have started out as intense, bright oranges and yellows one day and the next they are born from a sky that is all violets and pinks. My dogs are also very inspiring – the way the shades of their fur blend from one to the next. Even the sharp contrast of a whale’s gray-white tail against the intense blue of the ocean will catch my eye. Inspiration is all around; it’s the interpretation into design that is key.
I am also inspired by my travels around the world where I find different finishes and architectural details I might incorporate into a home. Blending those unique features gives your space a unique and original touch. I love working on older homes where we can maintain the character but give it fresh modern comforts. My home was built in 1924 and we have completely updated it. Whether I am remolding a lake house , designing an island retreat or simply updating a kitchen or bath; I enjoy working with many styles and find inspiration in them all.
My approach to design is a little different than most. I use a more organic approach. I don’t come in and present a package of preconceived ideas of how I think your house should look. I spend time with you and learn what is important in your life. I prefer to engage you by sharing your thoughts, your favorite items and the stories behind your heirlooms.
We then start with the more significant pieces. We might find a rug or chair we just love. This piece will in turn tell me what color the walls should be and what direction the fabric on the sofa should take.
If you prefer, I can also design and implement a new decorating plan for your entire house with very little input. The key to successful design is understanding what you want to express. By connecting with their overall intent, clients say I have achieved results that are better than they could have hoped for!
To create a welcoming home, the most important question you can ask yourself is what feels good to have around you. Living in a place that feels good to you is one of the best investments you can make in your overall well-being. One thing I always remember – you don’t just live in a home. You live with and through your home… and experience its warmth and character on every level, every day.
It is my honor and pleasure to assist you in making your home a space that improves your experience of your life.
